Wonderful Weekend Workshop

Last weekend I spent a lovely two whole days with the very talented Birgit Koopen at Wynyard - the workshop was hosted by the super organised Sue Tucker.

So on the Saturday we created two different sized canvasses. We started out decorating a few sheets of deli paper to use as a collage:

Then we used these on our canvassess along with some Carrabelle studio stamps and Liquitex paints and inks (this first canvas my fave make from the weekend!):

Loved some of these Carrabelle studio stamps - had to buy myself a few lol!

Then we were back again on the Sunday to learn various art journalling techniques and how to use up any left over paints and ink and wotnot to stop wasting our supplies!!

So we did a huge number of backgrounds - again we used the Liquitex products and Carrabelle Studio stamps and stencils.

We did complete a few pages:

And here are just a few of the backgrounds I have in my journal to work on another time but I really do have a whole ton of them!!

Overall it was a fab weekend and I'm really pleased with everything I created and all the new techniques I learnt :)

Use Your Wings

Recently Lin Brown shared a technique video over on the Paperartsy blog using sprays and a few different mediums to create a lovely Paua shell effect - you can check her video out HERE.

I loved this idea so gave it a try using 3D gloss gel medium by Prima as part of their Finnabair range.

It was so difficult to try to take photos that really show how it looks in real life but here are a few attempts:

The stencil I used is from TCW - once the gel was dry I spritzed it with gold and blue mica sprays four times - drying in between.

I highlighted some of the raised areas with white fire treasure gold.

Mounted onto blue card and then a kraft card blank - the sentiment is from the Tim Holtz small talk sticker book.

Thanks for looking, please stop on over HERE to see what everyone else has been creating for this challenge.

Everything Has Beauty

There is a new theme over on the Paperartsy blog this fortnight - gels and mediums. My project was very much inspired by Sue Carrington's project which you can see here.

I've used a paper mâché hanging board as my base and covered it with torn book pages using glue and seal to stick the pages and also over the top to seal them:-

I gave it a light coat of Buff Fresco paint to tone down the text a bit:-

Next I used a Lin Brown stencil with some Prima graphite texture paste - it is really thick and sandy and has a great sparkle in it (one of my cats was very interested in the paste lol):-

Next I painted some smoothy card with Lavender Fresco paint and then another piece with Tinned Peas. I stamped and cut out the images from a Lin Brown plate then added dimension using Eggplant and Limelight Fresco paints.

The flower petals were coated with Paperartsy metallic glaze, shaped then layered and fastened with a brad.

I added some extra stamping on the board using a couple of Finnabair texture stamps in smokey grey versafine, then edged the board with walnut stain distress ink.

I layered all the pieces onto the board then added the lace along the bottom and the small talk sticker.

A couple of additional photos:-

Calendar Challenge - August

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for dropping in today!

So over on Darcy Wilkinson's blog Art and Sole she is doing a calendar challenge for the whole of 2015 - to find out more about it click HERE.

So for August the challenge is:

1.. Keep a part of the original picture and incorporate that into your design

2, Technique - Use found objects to stamp with

3. Add – a silhouette

4. Blog your calendar page and link up from August 1st 2015

So here is my calendar before I altered it:

And here is my altered version:

I started by using white gesso to block out the Buddha then blended the following Fresco paints for the background: Mermaid, Caribbean Sea, Southern Skies, Guacamole and Limelight.

I wanted to keep that lovely cracked background around the outside as my original calendar part.

Next I added my stamping using these found objects:

I used Frescos in Candy Floss and Zesty Zing with the bubble wrap and then the lids were used with black and white gesso:

Next for my poppies - I used Little Black Dress with a stencil which I believe is by That Special Touch.

Then I added a variety of tissue tapes by Tim Holtz for them to stand on and added some shading using a grey Pitt pen.

A smudgy border was added using Little Black Dress and Snowflake paints before flicking some white splatters over the whole thing.

I'm entering my calendar over at Art and Sole for the August Calender Challenge HERE.

I'm also entering over at Paperartsy as their current theme is flowers - find all the info HERE.

Circle Journal - part two

Hello all,

As I have said in a previous post I'm participating in a Paperartsy themed circle journal - today I would like to share with you my pages in the second of the journals I received.

This journal is owned by Clare Lloyd - she had stipulated some rules which I won't share on here as it would ruin the surprise for others in the circle, but I will say that I think I adhered to Clare's rules pretty well!

So here are a couple more pics:

I used Dylusions paints in Lemon Zest, Vibrant Turquios, Fresh Lime, Cut Grass, White Linen, Crushed Grape, Bubblegum Pink and Squeezed Orange.

The stamps used were all Paperartsy and were: JOFY22, JOFY21, EDY10, ELB05 and ELB15. Alongwith stencil PS007.

The current theme over on the Paperartsy blog is flowers so do pop over and take a look here at all the challenge rules and also the fab makes by the DT.

Show Your Face - Inspired by Nika Rouss

Hello,

Over on Kim Dellow's blog she hosts a weekly Friday event called Show Your Face. I've managed to join in a few times previously but for the month of August Kim has asked that we draw a face inspired by somebody else.

So a while ago I discovered Nika on YouTube - she does some wonderful mixed media/art journal style videos - but I just loved this recent one of hers and decided to have a go myself at doing a face in her style. Here is Nika's video:

So here is my go at creating a face inspired by Nika:

I used Paperartsy Fresco paints in the following colours: Caribbean Sea, Prawn, Tangerine Twist, Little Black Dress, Snowflake and Limelight.

I drew her with a Stabilo All Black pencil and used stencils by Paperartsy and TCW. Also I used a Lin Brown stamp from ELB15.

Her lips and eye were coloured using watercolour pencils and the splatters were done with a white Posca pen.

Loads of people have linked up to play along over on Kim's blog so please do take a look at some of the wonderful faces people have created - just click HERE

Purple Poppy

Today I had a little bit of time to play and created this card for my Granny-in-laws birthday:

It was created using watercolour paper and some of the new inks I won which are from Oak House Studio. The colours I used were French Wine, French Lavender and a smidge of French Mint. This was my first go at using these inks and I found them very good, I had a go at spraying, dripping and painting with them.

Stamped the Poppy from Paperartsy Hot Pick HP1505 in black then masked and created the background using the large script stamp from Hot Pick HP1501 in a combination of distress inks in peacock feathers and shaded lilac.

A bit of harlequin stencilling using the shaded lilac distress ink and then also a bit of white paint and some splattering with the white paint also.

Added the criss crosses from Sara Naumann Paperartsy plate ESN11 and then the sentiment which is by Inkylicious.

Layered onto black card then onto a Kraft card blank.

All done :)

I would like to enter my card in the following challenges:

  • Paperartsy - current theme is flowers, click HERE for all the challenge info
  • That's Crafty - their current challenge is purple passion, all the details can be found HERE
